Why is assessment so far removed from reality?
What’s school for?
Many would say it’s to prepare kids to participate effectively in the world of work.
So why are the conditions in which we measure their capability for work so far removed from the worlds they’ll be working in? Worlds where:
Working with others is a constant, and doing so effectively is essential.
Things are dynamic and fluid, plans are never completely fixed in stone, so being adaptable is necessary.
You get the chance to fix things.
Seeking, getting, and integrating help from others - when and as often as you need it - is part and parcel of being a good worker.
Having the right tools is a must if the work is to be good.
