What flavour is the learning?
We must plan, but too easily we get swept away with listing what we’ll get the kids to do.
Shift your perspective, just for a little.
Spend a few moments thinking about this question:
When the kids go home at the end of the day, how would you like them to describe what the learning tasted like?
— sweet, sour, rich, thin, heavy, light, spicy, plummy, salty, bitter, earthy, crisp, acidic, nutty … ???
As you turn that question over, it will help to think about the tastes your kids already love.
And then, you might consider how you could broaden their learning palette so that they are able to appreciate the many different flavours learning has.
Are there opportunities to savour things that have been missed?
Does that little exercise shift what makes it onto your list of ‘what’?
