A dark night. A headtorch. Just cold enough for my breath to condense and form swirling clouds that expand into nothing.
I stop. I watch.
I start to play with manipulating this transformation of water’s state from vapour to liquid. — My breath, shallow or deep. My breath, long or short. My hands, cupped close or moving up and through. My head tilted up or down.
I notice how the water changes because of how I handle it and what it encounters.
When the kids arrive at school, what do they encounter? How are they handled? What states are they transformed into?

Something to try that might make a difference
I wrote this one thinking about the spirit one brings to an endeavour and how that can make all the difference to what happens, but how that spirit is vulnerable to what it meets. You’ve got so much influence over that, so
Make the kids feel a little bit of magic as they enter the classroom.
This can be as simple as a smile and a hello to every kid. Or it might be something grander like a trail of clues from the door that lead to something fascinating.
Invite that magic that’s there inside all of them to show itself.
