On the surface, there’s the behaviour.
We can write rules about behaviour. We can even put the rules on posters.
That only gets us part of the way.
What’s driving the behaviour? Quite likely, it’s an unmet need:
For attachment, and the unconditional love that comes with it.
For acceptance, and the secure sense of belonging it brings.
For feeling, and the safety to express emotions it requires.
For play, for the joy and freedom, confidence to explore, and sense of self it fosters.
Rules might set the baseline. But it’s relationships that shift the needle.
