Maria’s response to the post School and free play was to email me with this question: “how do you make the structural and cultural shift?” It’s a worthy question, so thanks Maria for asking it - especially given she’s working in a secondary school (yay).
Now, I have my ideas! If we took a line and wrote evolution at one end and revolution at the other, I’d be closer to the revolution end. That’s useful in some contexts, not so much in others.
But there are many of you who read On Learning who have and are living through the very process Maria’s question invites us to consider, in contexts where revolution is not really an option. So, instead of me pretending to know it all, I think it would be great if a few more voices responded to that question.
+ How can schools become places that aren’t Plutophobic?
+ What needs to be considered that’s not obvious?
+ What’s one thing you did that really helped?
Can any of you help Maria out? If so, please contribute with a comment.
