I keep coming back to this book. Spanning the indigenous cultures of Aotearoa New Zealand, Canada, and Australia, each chapter offers fresh (to me) perspectives on the power of story and its intersection with knowledge.

It also makes very clear the ways in which these have been swamped/discarded/discredited/de-emphasised by education systems.
