We must be wary of extremes.
Sometimes, in our enthusiasm for play, we can absent ourselves from the process so much it becomes the equivalent of abandonment, which means we don’t get to know the kids.
But other times, in our urge to have them learn things, we can become so involved and directive that we squash the space a kid needs to get to know themselves.
Our role as educators is to dance between the two so that we get to know them while they get to know themselves.
