Daily Short Thought Round-up #3
This week: a focus on Carl Rogers and his ideas about self-actualisation.
A warm hello to you,
On Tuesday, we took a mid-afternoon stroll down to the beach. The kids took notebooks and found a spot to draw while we (wife, me, Pluto) went wandering.
And it’s left me thinking about how thresholds are just as much mental as they are physical. The kids crossed a mental threshold when they decided to take their notebooks to the beach. That led to a plan, and all plans come with imaginings, with some kind of feeling and vision of what will be. The kids also crossed a physical threshold as they came over the dunes, which made brighter, more real, some of those imaginings.
So there they sat, on their chosen logs, focused, drawing and writing, attending to the place, getting to know it in deeper, more nuanced ways. And at the same time, all that, surely, was working some inner-world magic for them.
This is the origin of care, no?
It certainly makes me think about how learning is tightly bound to the process of self-actualisation.
This week’s Daily Short Thoughts
I took a thematic approach this week and it was enjoyable - I could flesh things out a bit more. It’s something I’ll be carrying on with.
